Hi all.

If we could keep this focused on Tower's history rather than on the current competition or on the disposition of individual locations, that would be great.

Thanks,

http://www.groceteria.com/lucky/index.html : Lucky also operated a chain of department stores called Gemco throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Memco (a Gemco clone on the east coast which was liquidated in 1983), Hancock Fabrics, and Grand Auto Supply at various periods during the 1970s. In reaction to...

It was originally a Lucky, although I don't know when it opened. Save-Mart took it over in July 1997 when Lucky finally pulled out of the Central Valley altogether. Save-Mart acquired a total of ten stores in Modesto, Turlock, Stockton, Manteca, Atwater, and Merced at this time.

I have no idea on specifics, but I remember looking at the site a year or two back and seeing numerous stores with obvious remnants of big T signs, etc.

FYI, the location search on their site also features photos of most locations, and some are very obvious former Thriftimarts:

Were these Rock Hill and Painesville malls just called "Downtown Mall"? I'd like to know the specific mall name, as I'm working on a list of malls in the US. A quick thirty seconds on Google provided the following info from this page : In 1977 Rock Hill became one of the hundreds of citie...

I would like to know more about the downtown malls in Rock Hill and Painesville. When did they open? Did they have anchor stores? Are they still standing? Heck, what were the malls' NAMES? As I said about five posts up, Rock Hill was torn down several years ago. Again, it was not so a much a mall b...

Could be that Safeway was also acting as supplier to other chains. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that A&P did some of that with its house brands on a limited basis.
