Former marina Safeways in SoCal
Went on a few roadtrips this year and saw these locations along the way. --- 4852 South Bradley Road, Santa Maria. Now a CVS. https://scontent-sjc3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/118804297_10109011357439283_796169906276862972_o.jpg?_nc_cat=106&ccb=2&_nc_sid=0debeb&_nc_ohc=60Eig8K6zY8AX-JEtu4&am...

Hi,
I'm not sure where the scanned file is - this was from over 11 years ago. It may be on my archive CDs somewhere at home, but I can't say for sure.

Brentwood Market
PnS was from another company Safeway bought out (when and what, I forgot) Brentwood Markets, a South San Francisco-based chain which Safeway bought in 1983: http://www.groceteria.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=176 (2006 thread on PnS - second page mentions a PnS location in a former KMart in Dublin) htt...

Re: Possible former Albertsons
I'm surprised of the claims that this was a former Kmart (at least built as such), because it really reminds me of many of the 1970s-era former Safeway stores in Houston (now mostly serving as Fiesta if they're still in grocery use at all). At least one Yelp review of the PNS/Safeway mentions its K...

An update: As of this past Sunday (January 10) this store is now a full-blown Safeway. I'll post a photo when I get a chanceTheStranger wrote:Here's the new on-store signage for Pak 'n Save in South San Francisco, with the Safeway text:

A couple of recent photos I took of the marina Safeway at 30th & Mission in San Francisco's Bernal Heights:

Re: Possible former Albertsons
There aren't any good pictures of the interior but the interior seems different from a regular Lifestyle remodel. Could be the angles, however... I think the sheer scale of the South San Francisco store (a former KMart if I am not mistaken) and the retention of a finished concrete floor do much to ...

Pak N Save
From reading Yelp reviews, it seems Pak n Save is being eliminated as well, remodeling into normal Safeway stores. Given Albertsons Cos. apparent dislike for self-checkouts, and Pak n Save not even listed on their list of brands (it shows Lucky and Super Saver), I can imagine that it won't be kept....

Re: What is the oldest Safeway in operation?
The Market St. Safeway might have been Marina-styled ages ago, but it certainly isn't now. I think it is so old, that it was built without a Marina roof, was given one when that became the chain's "signature style" and has since been expanded and remodeled beyond recognition. That locatio...

Re: Defunct grocery chains you personally shopped at
I guess fresh&easy will soon be on this list as well...I went to the now-closed location on Silver Avenue in San Francisco (I think the only remaining location in SF is at the former Albertsons at Clement/32nd on what had been a Safeway from the 1950s to 1995)

Re: Dale's Markets, San Fernando Valley, 1984
Glad I found this thread. I worked at Dale's while a senior in high school, 1978-79. A few thoughts: The store at Devonshire and Reseda was Store #31, considered the "flagship" of the chain. David Dale (Sr.) personally shopped there each Sunday morning, as he lived in Granada Hills. When ...

Justin Karimzad referred earlier in this message string to the Food Bowl on McKee Road in San Jose, Calif.
