I only remember one in Maywood, next door to a Thrifty's with a restaurant inside! The building was damaged by a storm around early '83 (the Thrifty's roof partially collapsed and never reopened). Smith's closed that location and sold to an independent, Alpha (not Beta). I believe the entire block w...

There was one in Fontana on Foothill that was white with maybe 25,000 sq ft. of selling space. The store didn't stock a very big mix, and when Sol opened the large old white fronts he kept this little store operational. It was never expanded, nor as I can remember did it have the room too. Another ...

Does anyone remember FedMart having an sterisk in their logo towards the end? I think it was written FedMart* but I could be wrong. I posted about that upthread :) It was written FedMart* and I always thought it was strange. It was as if there was some kind of disclaimer that you had to find in the...

Let me do a better job of describing the 3-sided sign. Looking down on it, it's shaped like an open triangle. It has 3 legs, one at each vertex of the triangle that are essentially just long poles, probably 40 feet tall (?). The sign itself is white at the top of the poles. I know some still exist ...

Where on Central was it? I used to work in Montclair. Was it north or south of the 10 freeway?

Forgot to add, the Target on Orange Show in San Bernardino was once a White Front, and the former Target on Mountain in Ontario was also once a White Front. Both had also been Fedmarts. I read in a Wikipedia entry that the Orange Show store still had the White Front arch. I used to go to that store...

Looking at 2222 S Harbor Bl, that's where the Toys R Us was located. I doubt this buildnig was White Front, but there is a large empty lot it looks behind it. Somewhere near there, either on Harbor Blvd. or a parallel street, there was an abandoned supermarket, complete with a giant sign in the sha...

Hesperia at Main & I Streets, now a Vons. One of the last "new" Safeways in Southern California before the buyout. Victorville at 7th & La Paz, became a Vons after takeover and closed around 1992 or so. Now a 99 cent store. I had seen a scan of a postcard somewhere of a Safeway in ...

Grocery stores inside malls are quite common in Europe. In Ireland, they're usually anchored with a Penney's (same spelling, no relation to the US JC Penney).

The Stonewood mall in Downey, CA had an Albertson's. The main anchor was a JC Penney.
