Re: Late '50s Dominions with identical architecture

... Broadview Avenue in Toronto, now a Loblaws, might have been a variant. The side has been painted, but the rear looks familiar. This one opened as Dominion in the late 1950s. It's one of my favorite Toronto stores. Google Street View: https://goo.gl/maps/frMjybFVur4CN2TR8

Re: Late '50s Dominions with identical architecture

Late 1950s Dominion buildings have similarities that extend beyond frontal appearance alone: http://www.andrewturnbull.net/artifacts/dom-onstratford19.jpg This is 477 Huron St. in Stratford, Ontario. This location housed a Dominion ...

Late '50s Dominions with identical architecture

This is 1154 Hamilton Rd., London, ON. This store operated as a Dominion supermarket from the late 1950s to the early 1980s, likely closing either at the time of the 1985 A&P sale or in the wave of "Mr. Grocer" spin-offs that happened a couple ...

The mysteries of Eaton Groceteria in Canada

... Woodstock, and Sault Ste. Marie, Eaton Groceteria stores had become established by 1930...more or less in tandem with the other Canadian chains (Dominion, Loblaw, and A&P). But within a decade, they were gone. In London, they had disappeared by 1935; in the smaller cities of St. Thomas and ...

... other interesting finds, notes, and take-aways: * Chain development in St. Thomas predictably followed the progression in other nearby cities: Dominion entered by 1925, A&P and Loblaws followed by 1930, and all of them consolidated multiple neighbourhood stores into a single city supermarket ...

Re: Woodstock, ON chain grocery/supermarket history, 1926-2019

Like any other good city, Woodstock has its share of interesting stores and artifacts. The best of these was this terrific 1960s Dominion at 236 Springbank, now housing a dollar store: woodstockdominion.jpg The store in question seems to have had a surprisingly brief operational existence, ...

Woodstock, ON chain grocery/supermarket history, 1926-2019

... 1926-2019 If your familiar with the supermarket history of other southwest Ontario cities, you'll find a lot that's familiar here. * As usual, Dominion was the first chain, and A&P and Loblaws became established by the end of the 1920s. * Most chains in Woodstock retained downtown store ...

Re: Brampton, ON supermarket history

... 21 W Nelson? Or could it have been built as something else entirely? Yes, No Frills stores are usually ex-Loblaws or ex-Zehrs...but a few are ex-Dominion via Mr. Grocer, ex-Loeb via Provigo, or ex-something else via one-off permutations.

Re: Brampton, ON supermarket history

I'm also going to hazard a guess that Steinberg's/Miracle was at Brampton Mall (160 Main St S, now Metro) and Dominion was somewhere at Shoppers World (499 Main St S).
