Dunno if this is wishful thinking also but I would like to see a Pavilions commercial. I'm not sure if they made any with JUST Pavilions, but as a child I do remember the commercials with "Vons Pavilions" and a few short radio spots (which they still do).

It seemed like Safeway was the "king" of private store brands - Cragmont, Par, White Magic, Scotch Buy, Mrs. Whites, Crown Colony, Lucerne, Busy Baker..etc was??? They still are! Every VONS/Pavilions I walk into have Safeway brands all over the place. For every national brand, there are 5...

I don;t know if that is the store of not. I am trying to remember what was a cross the street from that store when I was younger (in the 1980's) which doesn't help much since all this was before I was born. I believe there was a Dryers ice cream factory (or Bryers) across the street from there durin...

Do you mean the store across from the Food4Less/Home Depot Shopping Center? Yes it was a supermarket. I know it was an ABC Supermarket in the past. From approximately the late 1970's until the early 1980's, it was an ABC Supermarket. Shortly after the supermarket closed, it became a church. I belie...

Big Lots Western/Slauson

Was this location a Safeway? For some reason it just reminds me of a Safeway. As far back I can remember it has always been a Pic N' Save but it just looks like it was a grocery store at one point...or am I wrong?

One store that always facinated me was the Beverly Hills Pavilions. It's size just amazes me. They were able to fit every department in such a small space. This has to be the smallest store in the company. Has this store changed much from when it was Safeway?

I thought that store was a gable? I used to work at that store and saw nothing that looked "Marina"...there is proof though that at one point in time it was a Gable. A Marina I am 70% sure it wasn't....though I could be wrong. You're right. I thought I read here somewhere that it was a Ma...

I haven't seen a "Pavilions Marina" style store other then the one in Santa Monica although I could be wrong. I believe the West Hollywood store is a former Marina, though it's been heavily remodeled. I thought that store was a gable? I used to work at that store and saw nothing that look...

So what exactly was/is different about a Lucky/Sav-on or Albertsons/Sav-on combo? I have been to one Albertson's store in North Hollywood that has a complete Sav-on side. Do you mean the one at the corner of Van Nuys Blvd and Sherman Way? That store was supposed to be a Lucky/Savon to replace a for...

This might be a lil off topic, but does the Kroger Sav-On have/had any relation to the former California chain?

Those pictures are very interresting! I wish there were more smaller "neighberhood" stores still around.

AVIS Grocery Store

Hey all! I had a customer come in with some very interresting items (i have a ebay consignment store). He brought in some books from the late 1800's which included a "city directory" for the city of Pomona. I was looking through the book which had pictures and came across a grocery store c...
