Re: Summer Road Trip to Philadelphia and Suburbs

2449 was definitely a Penn Fruit. I grew up in that neighborhood and shopped a few times in that store. One of its unique features was that it had entrances on the Boulevard and from the parking lot. Most of the activity was on the parking lot side. I think there were only 2 or 3 checkouts on the B...

Re: Acme in New York

Acme had stores in New York state, at least in western/central NY, but closed them all in 1979. Coincidentally that was the year Food Fair (and Penn Fruit with it) went out of business. I would not be surprised if Acme ever extended into New York City like Pathmark (especially the Bronx), upstate N...

Re: A&P "Centennial" Stores Still Housing Supermar

There are a few A&P Centennial stores that now houses Acme Markets. All of these were converted from the A&P and superfresh names when Albertsons acquires 70+ stores from the bankrupt A&P in 2015.

Re: Old Albertsons store brands

2 of Acme Markets' brands are now part of Better Living Brands/Lucerne Foods Inc. they are: Lancaster Brand Meats, and Ivin's. They both pre-date the albertsons acquiring American Stores, Skagg's acquiring legacy American Stores Company [Philadelphia], and legacy American Stores Company acquiring Al...

Re: Closed Albertsons divisions

The Florida division had a distribution center in Plant City but that was sold/outsourced, and as of 2010, they had still offices there in that complex, but it seems that with the 2013 consolidations, that's no longer the case, even though Florida Albertsons still exists. The 3 remaining Albertsons...

Re: Reset conversions vs. Rebrand conversions

One odd exception to the Albertsons "resets" would be the former A&P in Boonton, NJ that is now an Acme. Unlike the rest of the A&P brands/Acme stores, this store was originally going to close, and was just a day or two from finishing it's going out of business sales when Acme dec...

Re: New Acme/Acme Pharmacy opened in Philadelphia

A lot of the Acme locations that has pharmacies, not counting the former A&P stores, have either been having the "Sav-on" name dropped or kept, depending on the location. All of these remodeled stores has the "Quality Build" interior decor

Re: New Acme/Acme Pharmacy opened in Philadelphia

I think that the Sav-On name will be/has been de-emphasized. Old Albertsons really pushed the Sav-On pharmacy name (or Osco) name for its remaining stores prior to selling out. It must have cost a ton of money without much payout. But at least one of the renovated ACME stores as shown by Acme Style...

New Acme/Acme Pharmacy opened in Philadelphia

A new Acme/Acme Pharmacy opened 10/1/2015 in Philadelphia, at 180 West Girard Avenue. It was the first of the 70 A&P owned stores that Acme's parent company Albertsons LLC acquired. This location was the last superfresh store to open.

No more use of store cards at Pathmark and Waldbaum's

Since 8/1, all Pathmark and Waldbaum's locations are "Card Free", except if you use the Zavers Coupons on Upromise. Don't know when A&P and superfresh will adapt this.
