Saw this video today on YouTube and it has the "grate" like a 80's Pavilions would have. This store is located in Rowland Heights, CA.
Was this a old Pavilions? I don't recall other stores using that type of design.

Re: Safeway/Sav-On 3rd & Fairfax
After that it was Lucky but I don't remember Ralphs there. I'm not 100% sure about this but if I remember right Ralphs had to choose between that store and the former Alpha Beta at Wilshire & Hauser (now a Ralphs Fresh Fare) as part of a consent decree with the FTC. If Ralphs had to choose, the...

Re: Safeway/Sav-On 3rd & Fairfax
I don't remember Ralphs being there but It could have been before my time. I know for sure though, it was an Albertson's so previously being a Lucky should be 100% correct.
Did this store close prior to the Vons buyout or was it a divested store?

Safeway/Sav-On 3rd & Fairfax
Came across this photo in a Facebook group showing a Safeway and Sav-On combo. I'm assuming this was a Super S prior to Sav-On taking over the drug portion. Wasn't there a Safeway a street over or was that a Market Basket? Either way, I found this photo interesting as it's very hard to come across m...

Re: Vons Pantry Stores
Ran across this picture in one of my Facebook groups of the Pasadena Pavilions as The Pantry. For years I assumed this was previously a Safeway since it was a Pavilions Place. I see they didn't just use "Place" on the smaller acquired Safeway stores in better areas.

There aren't any good pictures of the interior but the interior seems different from a regular Lifestyle remodel. Could be the angles, however...
Seem like a regular Safeway by adding Starbucks. You don't usually see a Starbucks in a warehouse format store!

Re: Safeway's original SoCal division
I've wondered this for awhile myself. There really really isn't much history of Safeway in Southern California before the VONS takeover back then (a few photos/details here and there) but not nearly as extensive as Safeway history up north or in other states Safeway division were in. Would be intere...

Re: Quisenberry's Department Stores (Oregon)
I found this under one of their timeline photos on Facebook: "1954 - Toggery Bill's acquired by Mr. Quisenberry. 1986 - After the completion of the sale of his Quisenberry's Department Stores, Mr. Quisenberry retained Toggery Bill's and changed the name of his men's store to Quisenberry's."...

Early mid-1980s Lucky training/service video
Found this video on Youtube for the Lucky Northern Division about refrigeration maintenance. Shows some vintage Lucky interiors. Pretty interesting time warp.

B&B stores
I caught wind of this grocery store on an Episode of "What's My Line?" (the contest won Grocery Clerk of the year, 1964), but I can not find any info on this store online. I know they were based in Montana and were bought by Fred Meyer in the 1960's, so I am assuming it was a chain. Anyone...

Re: Thrifty (and Other Rite-Aid Legacy Brands) Ice Cream
Saw an ice cream truck a few days ago advertising "8 flavors of Thrifty ice cream" with a HUGE Thrifty ice cream decal. I was a bit surprised to see that! Maybe Thrifty ice cream is very popular with hispanics?

Family Farms - S. Central Ave & 43rd St, Los Angeles
This store has a very Lucky feel to it. The outside uses Lucky font for bakery, liquid, deli, etc. Wand/or a Super Saver at one point?

Re: Palm Springs Safeway
interesting tid bit this building has a basement, I can think of one other Safeway store that still use basements for storing freight and have to use an elevator to bring pallets up and down (University Safeway in Seattle) Building has +/- 18,780 SF on street level and a +/- 12,000 SF basement that...

Slightly strange topic about Los Angeles grocery stores
So, I've recently started playing a game called L.A. Noire and it's set in 1940's Los Angeles. The streets are accurate as in real life. Even some places that still exists today are in the game. The game has many real name retailers in it at the time like The Broadway Hollywood, J.J. Newberry, Kress...

Sontag Drug Stores
I recently came across a check from 1945 written out to "Sontag Drug Stores" located at 300 N. Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, CA, but when doing a search I only come up with 1 location on Wilshire and Cloverdale. Is there any history to this chain? Was it merged with another company or just...
