Re: Dairy Queen Through the Years
The DQ in Turlock closed a couple years ago. Its now a small Mexican restaurant that gets little business. The quality had nosedived over the years. Once a Sonic moved next to it, I knew it would never survive that. DQ in the 90s was great. In Missouri if you ordered a large shake, they gave you a ...

Re: Two Guys Discount Stores
Two Guys in Scj=henectady, New York played a huge part in my growing up. It, in my opinion was the best overall store of its kind ever. The only thing I wouldn't personally buy there was clothes. Their record dept was second to none. Their hobby center sold old vintage coins which you could examine...

Re: Nichols Discount City
To repeat, there was one (and only one) Nichols location ever in Gloversville. It opened in 1972 and closed probably late '80's or very early '90's or so. It wasn't long after that Wal-Mart demolished it and built their first store in the area which was open by the summer of '92. As far as grocers ...

Re: Nichols Discount City
I recall something about some old woman crashing into the Amsterdam Nichols.. I was wondering though wasn't there a Nichols in Johnstown or did the Gloversville one move from a different location (I think it was in the arterial plaza before moving across the street next to the Shop n' Save (Hannafor...

Re: Acme in UP State N.Y.
To try to get the Acme/NY State discussion back in the proper forum, I've got a question or two then. Acme had a presence where I live. I know for sure they had a store in Johnstown which closed in late '73. I don't know for certain if this was a replacement for a smaller store they had closer to d...

Re: New location list: Albany through 1960
I could swear there was a third site for Loblaws that was used as a bingo hall in its later life in the Johnstown gloversville area it had like a 70s style segmented sign and it was a brick building.. The Price Chopper in the Johnstown/Pyramid mall started life as a Loblaws There was the Loblaws tha...
