Re: Super Fresh logo history
I never understood the new logo. It looked to me like a swan on viagra.

Bucks Crossing/Bucks County Mall
Can anyone give me the history of the shopping center at 97E Street Rd in Feasterville PA? Right now it is a shopping center with a TJ Maxx, Acme, Petco, Five Below, Staples, Michael's, Dollar Tree, etc. I know it used to be a mall called Bucks County Mall. I am wondering if it was ever a Korvettes ...

Re: Nichols Discount City
What was really ironic for me, is that in 1975 I was a teacher in Virginia and worked for Gamarel Electric during the summer. I was sent to Amsterdam NY to set up the new Nichol's store's electrical department. Then around 2002 after moving the NJ and (after 25 years with Hechinger) working for a ...

Re: Anyone in DC/MD/VA area remember S. Klein's?
If you look online, there are some interesting stories behind S. Klein. I remember the one in Alexandria, Virginia. The last reminder of the store, a 6 story neon sign was torn down last year in Newark NJ.

Re: The Andersons (Ohio)
As I recall, they made their own fertilizer, and also sold it to other chains, using the chain's name as a house brand. I knew the Hechinger brand fertilizer was made by the Anderson's in Maumee Ohio. I knew they also had stores, but never saw one.

Re: The Sears Essentals experiment comes to a painful conclu
Those new stores were horrible. I wrote a letter to Sears the first time i walked in. There were aisles of mostly nothing. The first ones did not carry clothes for plus size people. It was laid out poorly. A lot of empty hooks and shelves. That store was finally converted back to a KMart. The other ...

Re: Acme "eyesore" Clementon, NJ
This eye sore won't be there much longer. They have started tearing it down. They will be building housing on the site. Retail doesn't do well on Route 30 in NJ outside of Philly. There is a KMart in Lawnside and a WalMart just east of that (Sommerdale I guess). But further east, nothing has done ...

Re: Levitz Furniture
I guess we have sort of gotten away from Levitz Furniture. I believe Modells is a family owned company that has been around for over 100 years. There is a Target a few miles away in Springfield on Baltimore Pike. It has 2 floors, so it was obviously not built as a Target. Targets on the East Coast ...

Re: Hechinger
are you saying that the first store in Pa. opened in the early 80's? My mother in law thinks she remembers buying materials from the Woodlyn store in the late 60's. No, back in the late 60's, Hechinger was only in the Washington DC area. The first store outside of DC was Annapolis MD. And that was ...

Re: Sears Hardware, dead chain?
The one in Berlin NJ is still open. Not sure why that one survived, and others closed. There is a Home Depot aacross the street, and they opened a Lowe's down the road. There is also a KMart nearby, where people can buy Craftsmen things.

Re: Hechinger
I heard a rumor that the Downingtown store was originally planned as a one-floor JCPenney to replace the very old "J. C. Penney Co." store down the road in Coatesville. Instead, they built an addition to Exton Square Mall along with a new Sears, Boscov's, and food court. I never heard that ...

Re: Levitz Furniture
. For some reason their sign had to be taken down and re-hung before it opened. I noticed that too, and was wondering why. I am a vendor rep that goes to pet stores, so I was in the Petsmart watching the crew removing the letters. It's amazing the changes in the shopping center the few years I have ...

A lot of stores in the Philadelphia area were taken over by electronic chains from outside the area. PC Richard from New York took Mt. Laurel NJ and Cottman Ave in Philadelphia. HH Gregg from Indiana took over stores in Wilmington DE, Christiana DE, Deptford NJ and other locations. The Sicklerville ...

Re: Defunct Video Store Chains?
I think Blockbuster was bought out by Dish Network. They will probably still close stores.
In Philadelphia, I remember West Coast Video. They have been out of business a while now.
