Re: When could this photo of the Newark DE Acme have been ta
There is a Fotomat in the parking lot, couldn't tell you how long it has been since I saw one of those! (But it could be a clue)

Re: Central PA questions
If you go to weisproject.com there is a listing there of former Weis Markets stores. If you plan to go to the Allentown area, I could probably help you out in finding some former supermarket locations.

Re: Modern Genuardi's closures
Where was the Lansdale store in relation to the Weis? I remember them talking about closing one of the Lansdale Genuardi's stores back when I worked at Weis, but didn't know if it happened or which of the stores closed.

Re: Old Supermarket Mystery Hazleton, PA
The only old store up there I can help you with in Hazleton is that there was an old Weis on the main drag that was replaced by their current store around 1996. I believe it is now an Ollie's. I think Hazleton is one of the worst towns to drive through, with all the traffic lights and walk signals ...

Re: Older PA grocery stores with a State Store attached
This is all guessing on my part: I can remember the change to the name "Wine & Spirits" taking place at some point in the early/mid 90's (1994?), prior to that all the stores that I remember seeing simply had a generic "Liquor" sign on the front, nothing more. "State Store" seemed to be more of a ...

Very nice pics. Any idea where the stores are from? Too bad you didn't have one of the sign in front of that first store.

Re: Oldest Operating A&P
Wow, considering that the Colonial stores were a dime a dozen at one time, that is amazing that there are so few remain.

Re: Oldest Operating A&P
I asked the same question about a year ago, and nobody seemed to know. That store was also the oldest continually operating supermarket of any chain in the country, so I wonder if the oldest store now is also an A&P or from another chain?

Re: Bi-Lo Foods in Renovo, PA, what was it before?
I believe it was an old A&P. I drove past there several years ago, I think when the 1940's left, they forgot to take that town with them. Did you check out the Weis store on the other end of town? The inside of that store hasn't been touched since it opened around 1958-59.

Re: A&P "Centennial" Stores Still Housing Supermar
A former Centennial in Frenchtown NJ is now operating as the Frenchtown Market (IGA). I am guessing it was an A&P until not long ago, because the interior currently has a 1990's A&P decor. The store is no more than 15k sqft. and almost all of the fixtures are still there from the A&P days.

Re: Weis in Montgomery, PA
This store had it's old 1950's look inside until 2004. This store was a "Must-see" store for any old supermarket fan. Strangely, when they remodeled this store, they reused a lot of early 1990's decor and old shelving from other stores. Still a worthwhile visit if you're in the area. Adam has a few ...

Re: Former Super Fresh Stores in Hellertown & Berwyn, PA
I used to go to the Superfresh/A&P in Hellertown when I was a kid, during those same years that you did. I remember it quite well. I think there was a Dollar General store there before the True Value went in (Remember the True Value fire that happened around 1984?), or the dollar store shares the ...

Weis markets had a few mall stores. Store #54 in Whithall was entirely enclosed inside the mall, with a pair of outside doors that were only used when the store was open, but not the mall. The area behind the front-end was where the entrance to the mall was (similar to most mall stores). In 1998 ...
