Re: Buttrey Big Fresh

Great Falls at one point had three Big Fresh stores, two of which were built as Buttrey-Osco stores when they were being made to look exactly like Jewel-Osco. The one that became Smith's was built later to replace two other nearby Buttrey stores (one at Holiday Village Mall that had an attached Osco...

Re: Lucky in Albuquerque

The stand-alone drug stores were operating as Sav-On Drugs when I moved to Albuquerque in 1999. The last two stores closed after the CVS purchase as CVS decided for the second time that they would not open in Albuquerque. As an aside, in the last month, CVS has been working to repurchase Eckerd leas...

Re: Lucky in Albuquerque

And, now that Raley's has left New Mexico through a buyout by Albertson's, many of the divested stores are back to being Albertson's. A few, however, were relocated during Raley's ownership into former Furr's locations. Some of the Furr's locations were also former Safeway stores. I moved to Albuque...

Re: The Different Formats of Fred Meyer

Hobby Lobby and Office Depot are in the Wal-Mart/Grand Central (white roof). The store to the left (west) in the view is now a Smith's, but was a Lucky-SavOn when I first moved to Albuquerque. The store to the right (east) is now an Ace Hardware and Petco, along with a number of other smaller shops....

The last time I was there, the Great Falls store still had the Big Fresh interior. It was almost brand new at the time of the merger. The store was new construction as part of the Great Falls Marketplace (big box center). The store was probably the closest thing to the ideal Big Fresh that Buttrey e...

The Buttrey Big Fresh stores were one of the two major versions of Buttrey's after they left American Stores. After Buttrey and ASC split, they had to lose the Buttrey-Osco name, so they just went to Buttrey Food & Drug, making some minor changes to signage, but keeping the same font as Jewel-Os...

Montana had two Target stores open in 1982 (Great Falls and Billings). Both had dropped ceilings over the main walkways, with signs at each intersection with arrows pointing toward other departments. All the signs were white, with a red grid (graph paper look) background, and black lettering. The wa...
