Re: Baskin-Robbins Architectures (1959-1990)
Could anyone here please enlighten me as to the history of Baskin-Robbins' architectural styles owing to the style of architectures as well as the signage? http://www.groceteria.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=3052 The old "ragtime/circus 31" logo many of us have remembered was first u...

Re: old store brands
The "generics" era was the time of double-digit inflation, they were supposedly even cheaper than the store brand and were basically slightly lower in quality than the store brand. There was even a generic "beer" which was made by the infamous Falstaff brewery I remember the 'ge...

Re: Hechinger
are you saying that the first store in Pa. opened in the early 80's? My mother in law thinks she remembers buying materials from the Woodlyn store in the late 60's. No, back in the late 60's, Hechinger was only in the Washington DC area. The first store outside of DC was Annapolis MD. And that was ...

Re: Hemet CA
Another swing through Hemet, along Florida/Hwy 74. Truly is a flash to the past...with so many evident/former businesses: Naugles=La Cabana--the first site as you go east. Wienerschnitzl=La Cabana--the 2nd one (address is 2244). Naugles=former site is now Del Taco (towards the end of Florida/74) Ch...

Re: Acme in the DC area
The Acme was at Lee Highway and Graham Road. Grand Union/Great Valu was Annandale Road and Arlington Blvd. Do you know if the nearby Loehmann's has closed? I wonder why the Giant-anchored center is named after that store instead. Loehmann's is bankrupt and closed their only other store remotely clo...

Re: Blythe CA
On the way back...was able to swing again through the booming Blythe. Had not looked at the Ford dealer...until I found the other posting. Yup. Indeed had been a grocery store. Will try to actually stop into the dealer next time to see if there are any remnants from Safeway. What is funny tho...is ...

Re: Blythe CA
It is odd that Wal-Mart has not entered Blythe (a city of around 10,000)-an understored, isolated town. The closest big city is Yuma. And for weirder yet: Parker, Az which is maybe only 30-40 miles N of Blythe has a Wal-Mart, a nice Safeway and a Bashas--------yet has only ca. 3K people. Admittedly...
