Re: Rainbow/Flamingo, Las Vegas

The Sunflower market site @ Rainbow and Flamingo was a Vons when I moved to Las Vegas in 1992 and closed in mid 2005. That entire center has not changed, just a little more run down since 1992, the only difference is the Starbucks/Einstein's building was built around 2001.

One can only assume the "Bonanza Center" got its name for being on Bonanza Rd. Additionally, this Albertsons is one of 2 Las Vegas locations that has switched back to the "Lucky" name.

Yes, the Pic & Save is now Big Lots and the Furr's Cafeteria sits empty, Kmart uses it to hang sale banners. Incedently, this Kmart just received the new red kmart signage and removed the Big K signs.

In the late 90's I was a manger for Toys International, a So Cal based company that was originally called Play Co. Toys. At their height in 1999 they had 45 stores under Play Co. Toys, Toyco and Toys International. Most of the Play Co's were in So Cal and were about 2/3 the size of Toys R Us, the To...

Just yesterday I was in Albertson's and noticed they are selling nylon bags for .99 each. Additionally, Raley's also uses the paper bags with handles but does have plastic upon request.

There was a Chuck E Cheese in North Hollywood, I was a young kid and don't remember the exact location but I think it was on Lankershim? This was the first location I know of in the San Fernando Valley. I do know later there was one in Northridge on Reseda Blvd. just north of Nordhoff and another in...

On east Sahara in Las Vegas there is a former McDonald's that is now a used car lot called McMarsh's, the only thing gone from this classic 70's McD's is the golden arches street sign.

I also remember a Thriftimart at Laurel Canyon and Rinaldi in San Fernando. This location was only a Safeway for a short time as there was a Safeway a couple blocks away on San Fernando Mission Blvd.

I believe that Big Lots location was a large Checker Auto Parts which moved into a free standing building in the parking lot in the mid 90's. The spot Checker AP moved to was Leatherby's Ice Cream Parlor which moved further west on Sahara near the strip in an old Sizzler location.

The land site mentioned being divested to Raley's in Nevada on the northwest corner of Maryland Pkwy. and Eastern has a new shopping center that has just been completed and it dosen't have a grocery store at all. It is a large center and instead of making a big strip center there are 8 or 9 building...

In Las Vegas, there are 2 brand new "Bob's Big Boys" which have opened in the last year and 3 additional locations are in the works. Oddly enough, Sizzler has also opened next to both BBB restaurants and I had not seen a new Sizzler in many many years.

There was a second Grocery Outlet in Las Vegas on Rancho just north of Bonanza, this is also now Save A Lot. This center also had a Safeway but not in the same location as the Save A Lot, the building Safeway was in is now government offices of some sort.

16210 Devonshire, Granada Hills--Smart & Final. I always thought that this was a Thriftimart. The conversion to Lucky wouldn't have lasted long since the former Smith's Food King in Granada Hills is a mile to the north at San Fernando Mission and Woodley and became a Lucky in October, 1984. Thi...

As a kid, I shopped at this store often with my parents. The gable side is where the produce dept. was, the entrance was on the Chatsworth side of the building. This Ralphs was the setting for many of the companys TV commercials and advertisements in the mid 70's to mid 80's.
