Re: DC area Grand Union stores that became Basics

Reminds me of the generic beer sold at A&P’s Family Mart. It tasted like weak “beer concentrate“ dropped in water and not fully dissolved.

That said, does anyone know if the Basics line was also sold at Big Star stores in the south? I honestly don’t remember.

I do plan to do Scranton and Wilkes-Barre (as well as Harrisburg) at some point, but I can’t say when.

Re: NEW: Allentown PA, 1925-2021

American Stores was actually the genesis of Acme. As they closed the smaller stores and converted to supermarkets, they began using the Acme Markets name. The company was still officially known as American Stores until it merged with Albertsons in the late 1990s. American also acquired Alpha Beta, L...

Site Issues

Just FYI, there was apparently a problem on the main site with an older Wordpress plugin that I have now disabled. It was causing some strange page artifacts in Chrome and Firefox. I have disabled several photo galleries in the process and I honestly don't have time to fix them right now. It may be ...

Re: TBay Ont Safeway sign: 1950s or 1970s?

Based on others I've seen and the basic footprint, my guess is 1959 but with drastic alterations over the years.

Ah, I did the updates in a new tab and forgot to copy the new data over to the “live“ tab. Should be fixed in a few minutes.
