Re: Kmart checkouts over the years

It seemed like in the early 90's they got different equipment and it was from a variety of providers. In the late 90's Kmart had managed to move most of the locations to the IBM Supermarket Software even if they were not using IBM Hardware. For a while Kmart ran its old software in the non-Supercent...

Re: Placerville, CA Lucky

This store, still open as Save Mart, has some large blow ups of their grand opening ads and ground breaking ceremony from the local newspaper archives now posted on some coolers above the 3 beverage department endcaps. Pretty sure those weren't there a few years ago when I last went into this store....

Re: Kroger closing in Hannibal and Louisiana, MO

Warrenton, MO Kroger closed June 25, 2019.

Can't say I am surprised... store had little business when I was there a few years ago. A new Schnucks opened nearby last year.

Still very sad to see these old Krogers going.

Re: McDonald's sauces at grocery stores

These appear to be Canada specific. They have the Canada McDonald's logo (with the red leaf in the middle). I think that is the only McDonalds to have a different logo as a rule. You do not see the golden arch in Canada without a red maple leaf in the middle, though it looks more like a red dot or b...

Re: Guam- Safeway

More research: it appears someone was operating as "Safeway" in Saipan who was not affiliated with the US Chain at all. They seem to have started in the 70's as a joint venture with a Japanese group, then sold to a Japanese group at some point, then re-purchased from the Japanese group in 2005, then...

Re: Guam- Safeway

Wasn't Hawaii under the San Francisco/Northern California division? Maybe this was too... That was my first thought too. Hawaii has always been NorCal Division. And wasn't 1994 about when NorCal division got out of Fresno? Maybe that was some final pruning. Looking at some photos of Payless Foods, ...

Re: Older KFC Locations

KFC in Cranbrook, BC still has the old bucket sign. Probably the 80's version of that sign.

Guam- Safeway

Doing some other research, I stumbled across that Safeway once had a store in Guam. It was in the mall there and was sold to Payless Food in 1994.

I wonder which division this store was under.

I assume it was sold because it was one very remote store.

Re: McDonald's Express

While McDonalds may still lead the pack, they're coasting on their name at this point. A mere shell of their former quality. Have any of you guys seen how their burgers are made now? I have a young cousin who worked there a few months ago. It's all kept in drawers and they put the burgers together ...

Re: Early Kmart closures (PRE-1994)

There was a very short lived one in the 6500 block of Coal Mine in Littleton, CO. Gone by the early 90's.

Re: Thrifty (and Other Rite-Aid Legacy Brands) Ice Cream

We can hope the Thrifty Ice Cream will be kept in some form. It was the only thing Rite Aid ever "acquired" that it actually kept the name of... I have noticed it in more stores lately. I have noticed it in the cartons at Seafood City in NorCal, also the large 5 gallon tubs (only in Vanilla) at Smar...

Re: McDonald's Express

Interesting notation that those locations offered deep fried pies due to lack of space for an oven. http://burgerbeast.com/2009/07/16/mcdon ... da-closed/

What else does McDonalds make in its oven besides the pies and cookies? I remember they used the ovens before for the pizzas.

Re: Thrifty (and Other Rite-Aid Legacy Brands) Ice Cream

I wonder if somewhere along the way, before my time, Thrifty was distributing its own ice cream to a wider geographic range of stores. I know the Reno-Plumb Lane and also Carson City Thrifty Stores both had large walk in freezers in their back rooms which I found odd because they did not have the us...

That package was used strictly in drug region. It was never used on any grocery or combo stores.

Re: McDonald's Express

It is getting a little blurry at present now if McDonalds needs to go back to some "express" sort of branding for the mall and Wal Mart locations. I make this comment because I am finding those locations do not serve the full McCafe menu and also do not have the full "all day breakfast" menu offerin...
