Supermarkets on 60 Minutes CNBC

An episode of 60 Minutes on CNBC recently featured a story on supermarkets. It was an interesting look at the industry. It was heavily focussed on Whole Foods. But, during the show, several other chains were referenced and some photos of stores shown. Three or four times A&P was shown; the store...

Re: New York: Food Basket

I don't recall a Food Basket in Western, Ma. I am familiar with Food Market of Western Ma. It was purchases by Waldbaum's in the late 70s, I believe, and then ultimately by A&P in 1986.

Re: A&P in New Hampshire

I came across an old 1989 holiday special ad flyer for A&P which listed all of their New England and upstate NY stores. There were 5 in NH: Peterborough, Milford, Tilton, Somersworth, and Portsmouth. I vaguely remember Milford and I think it was a centennial design. There were five stores in Mai...

Re: A&P in New Hampshire

I have answered some of my original question about A&P stores in NH while on a road trip and chatting with local old timers. There was a 50s vintage store in downtown Somersworth (pre-Centennial) that lasted at least until the late 80s. It was an unremarkable design. I saw one just like it in do...

Does anyone have pictures of the Southampton, East Hampton, or westhampton beach stores?

Re: A&P in New Hampshire

I don't think there was a store in Franklin until 1997. The Franklin store was in a very old downtown building; it closed when the new store in Tilton (just a mile down the road) opened in the 70s. I believe Tilton remained open until the late nineties.

A&P in New Hampshire

Does anyone know how many A&P stores remained in N.H. after the wave of closures in the mid to late 70s? And, where they were located? Any photos?

A&P Margaretville Closing

The only remaining A&P supermarket outside of its core market is finally closing. Now, the northern most A&P store is Pleasant Valley, NY. Also, the old A&P store in Mt. Vernon is also closing soon.

Re: Ithaca (Lansing) New York former A&P

After the era of massive closures in the mid to late 70s, 10 A&P stores remained scatterred throughout upstate NY. They were: Tannersville, Red Hook, Wynantskill, Norwich, Margaretville, Plattsburgh, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Ithaca, and Watertown. Since 2000, only Margaretville remains. Ithaca...

Re: 170 Clay Pond; Borune, MA

This store on Clay Pond Road in Bourne was built for and opened by A&P in 1993. It was a replacement for the very successful 30 year old Buzzards Bay store. Although the interior decor was the stark black and white like in the Futurestores, this store's signage was A&P Foodmarket. It is abou...

Re: A & P's on Cape Cod, Mass.

Having lived and worked on Cape Cod for many summers, I can tell you where A&P stores were located and what they are housing now. Bourne, opened in 93, closed in 2003, then a Grand Union, now vacant Buzzards Bay, opened early 60s, closed in 93, now Ocean State Job Lot Sandwich, opened 1990 as a ...
