Another Red and White Store closing
One of the last independent supermarkets in northeastern NC is closing after ~30-40(?) years in South Mills, halfway between Chesapeake, VA and Elizabeth City, NC. I learned of the tragedy in the papers this morning and ventured there shortly after. Pictures are included below. Most of the store's s...

Safeway in NC??
Ran across this website randomly - it seems that Safeway recently HAD at least two stores in NC, though I can no longer find them on their corporate website. Does anyone know why they would put an isolated store in NC? http://www.geospot.com/gs/Info?xsi=/gsdata/biz/28/76/b1908776/b1908776.xsent http...

Winn-Dixie store variants of 50s 60s 70s
Do anybody have pictures of typical Winn-Dixie store designs from the 50s, 60s and the 70s?

Gable Safeway(?) in Richland, WA
I also spotted this interesting piece further down Jadwin Ave. in/near downtown Richland, WA. I suspected at first that this was a c. late 1960s-1970's gable Safeway, but a few elements seem to be out of place, at least when looking at a 'normal' Safeway, esp. the front rather than side doors, plus ...

Mystery supermarket in Richland, WA
I ran across this very interesting piece while driving cross-country this summer. From the architecture, I assume that this neighborhood Rec Center behind the Days Inn on Jadwin Ave. might have been a supermarket in a previous life. Any ideas as to what it might have been? http://ussenterprise100.go...

Re: Be-lo stores in Hampton Roads(Not to be confused with Bi-Lo)
Yes, I've noticed over the past few years that Be-Lo and Fresh Pride locations have disappeared gradually - in my experience, the most visible absences along US 13 on the Eastern Shore, which I assume contained the perfect customer demographic for the chain until Food Lion started expanding up that ...

Be-lo stores in Hampton Roads(Not to be confused with Bi-Lo)
Can anyone shed some light on what Be-lo stores in the Tidewater region of VA were. All I know is that they tended to operate small markets in inner city locations as well as in some of the surrounding small towns. I believe that they were/still are owned by Camellia Foods. I would like to know the ...

Re: 7-11
There are still some 7-11's that are still branded under Citgo despite ending the contract. I could be wrong though, assuming that corporate has not gotten around to changing the signage on some of their stores.

Re: Bestway, Walker Ave, Greensboro NC upgrade
It's good that some people care enough about that old store to fix it up and perhaps keep it in operation for another few decades. If only more businessmen and women cared enough about our supermarkets....

Re: Pylon Sign Returns to Winn-Dixie
The pylon itself, the high interior walls and the large air vents suggest that this may be one of their older stores, probably not an attempt at retro designing. But I am curious due to the store's location within Jacksonville - might this be their flagship store?

Re: Safeway in Delaware
That store has been defunct as a Safeway since at least 2004. As I recall, they have a new store about a mile or so north.

Re: FARM FRESH SUPERMARKETS IN NORTH CAROLINA
Thanks! I'd love to see that photo. The large rectangular facade on the EC store was replaced around 1993 or so with a beige type stucco that is still on the building today, an odd move considering their impending departure shortly which, (and correction), may have been in 1995 or 6. Pictures when i...

Re: FARM FRESH SUPERMARKETS IN NORTH CAROLINA
Can any one tell me what a Rich's or Giant store looked like? I seem to remember the original Farm Fresh here as a grayish building with an enormous round-cornered rectangular facade holding the Farm Fresh logo. The most interesting part were the (hundred or so?) chasing lamps around the facade. I t...
